Hi friends,
Today I’m sharing how I’m making new art from old art - plus the tools I’ve used for these examples. If you’re feeling inspired to make make make after this email me back with photos & I’ll share them in the next newsletter!
I’m also into sharing the love around here, so I’m sharing the prints I bought last weekend at the Young Makers Market, because they’re fabulous and their creators deserve all the exposure they can get! They’re very different in style and content, so there’s something for everyone.
Alright, let’s do this!
First off, if you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been in linocut print mania land lately. This results in my having a lot of not-very-good prints that I was at a bit of a loss on what to do with.
So, then I thought maybe if I just cut them up, I could maybe use them for zines or artist trading cards. I really love the high contrast black and white!
Here are three artist trading cards I made:
I used crackle paste to get that amazing texture, and a sewing pattern tool with pink paint to get the ‘sort of like a sewing machine’ effect, except lazy. No sewing machine required!
Here’s the tools:

The Young Makers Market: Belgian artists & a chat with Candace Rose Rardon
The Young Makers Market went really well last weekend.
Candace Rose Rardon, writer of Dandelion Seeds (see below), swung by and it was really great to meet her! She had some lovely words as well about this zine, which is making me think about pursuing it as a further project. It contains a poem I had written, while pregnant, to my unborn baby (he’s now 18 months). Illustrated with mixed media collage art.
I learned a lot about table display, with a lot of changes to my layout being made from the Friday to the Saturday. Here’s a photo of my table on the 2nd day:
And here are the artists I’d like to share:
You can find them at:
Camille Carpentier: illustration, embroidery and linocutting. Here’s her instagram and her shop!
Arne Wastyn: graphic design, illustration, screenprinting and art collectibles. Here’s his incredibly lush website, and his instagram.
Cas Lofthus: cartoonist and comic artist. Here’s their instagram and their kickstarter for Project Parasomnia, a comic about a group of orphans battling nightmares and phobias on the inside of people's minds.
Thanks for reading & stay tuned for this Friday’s edition of Citizen Rewilding. It’s an offshoot of (Re)Wild Imagination specifically about citizen rewilding: from how/if it helps biodiversity, to what to plant when, to news about small scale rewilding around the world, to guerrilla gardening, and documentation of my own planting.
Love,
Jessica
Jessica! Friday was such a treat -- definitely a highlight of my time in Antwerp so far :) It was so fun to connect in person, and I can't wait to see how you explore your beautiful trees zine further 🤍
PS -- you've got me super curious to try out crackle paste now, I'm fascinated with that texture!
