I like taking photos of art mess as I make stuff.
I like
seeing photos of artists’ studios. I like
visiting Francis Bacon’s re-constituted studio in Dublin.
He added dust to his paint.
I like
pictures like this:
This is what I was making: a book. This was
meant to be the inside of the cover but once I fixed everything up I discovered that
I could
turn everything inside out
and it would be
perfect.
Recap: what you can expect here? A weekly-ish email featuring: 🐝 narrative non-fiction about/from beekeeping 🐝reflections on art witchcraft 🐝wildlife gardening and how to find yourself. Learn more and compare the different tiers. 🌾
I added mushrooms because fungi are
also
perfect: everything is
perfect
in its own way.
Here are the first few pages of the inside. I used white gesso & watercolour pencils, and that gold paint that I use at every available opportunity. I think maybe it was meant to be used on model kits. It’s definitely not acrylic. But…it’s perfect. And
sticks to everything.
Days later it’s still on
my hands in the shower.
That last photo - it’s the inside back cover now, but was meant to be the front cover.
Oh well / oh well.
Mess is so relaxing sometimes. Or rather,
mess is so relaxing to look at
once you’ve taken a photo of it and tidied it all away.
Then you have a still life. Not a mess but a photo of one. A momento mori.
Use these art supplies before you die.
